Saudi Arabia witnessed a tragic accident that claimed the lives of Sudanese doctor Abdel Aziz Idris and his wife after they suffocated inside their car while returning from Riyadh to Shaqra. According to circulating information, the couple had stopped to sleep inside the vehicle, but a malfunction in the car's air conditioning led to a refrigerant leak or internal air exhaust, resulting in oxygen deprivation and their deaths.
Luxury or deadly danger?
A car's air conditioner is essential for comfort, especially in hot weather. However, it can become a source of danger if it malfunctions or leaks. Air conditioner malfunctions related to a Freon leak, blocked vents, or damaged cooling fan can cause polluted airflow or the emission of harmful gases, leading to air pollution inside the car and reduced oxygen levels.
The most prominent signs of a car air conditioner malfunction
There are indicators that indicate a problem with your car's air conditioner that you should pay attention to, most notably:
- Weak or cold airflow.
- Strange or suffocating odors when the air conditioner is running.
- Hearing unusual noises from the air conditioning unit.
- The glass sweats from the inside when the air conditioner is on.
- Feeling dizzy or short of breath after a while of using it.
Safety first
To avoid such accidents, it is recommended to perform regular maintenance on your car's air conditioning system, check the air filter regularly, and avoid sleeping inside your vehicle while the air conditioner is running in enclosed spaces, especially if the engine is running for extended periods.
The death of the doctor and his wife reminds drivers of the importance of treating their car's air conditioner as a component that requires constant monitoring and maintenance, not only to ensure comfort, but also to preserve life.
