Although many passengers find a cup of tea or coffee a relaxing way to relax during a flight, flight attendants themselves avoid it altogether, citing concerns about the cleanliness of the water used to prepare it, Business Insider reported.
Tests reveal water problems
Press reports indicate that one in eight aircraft fails the "clean water" test, and a previous study revealed the presence of chloroform in some water samples, a chemical that can cause health problems.
Bacteria are formed during transport.
A 2015 study published in the Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health found that transporting water from trucks to airplanes can lead to bacteria even before it reaches the plane's tanks, making hot drinks less safe than passengers think.
Canned drinks are the safe choice.
For these reasons, aviation experts advise avoiding tea and coffee on board, and sticking to mineral water or bottled juices, to ensure your beverage is safe and clean.
