In a new medical achievement for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, King Saud Medical City, a member of the Riyadh Health Cluster, announced the success of the first joint replacement surgery using robotic technology. This achievement represents a qualitative shift in precision orthopedic surgery in the Kingdom.
Orthopedic surgeries
The successful operations included two specific cases:
The first was for a patient in her sixties who suffered from advanced osteoarthritis and chronic knee pain that significantly impacted her daily activities.
The second case involved a 20-year-old girl suffering from a congenital deformity and friction in her left hip joint, which significantly deteriorated her quality of life.
According to the medical team, the operations were performed using the latest surgical robotic technology, which provides:
3D computerized mapping of the joint.
High accuracy in determining angles and measurements.
Reducing the possibility of human error.
Improve recovery and reduce complications after surgery.
Saudi doctors lead success
The operations were performed with the participation of a select group of national cadres: Dr. Majed Shaqir and Dr. Ibrahim Al-Sarhani, and under the supervision of the Head of the Joints Unit, Dr. Talal Al-Shahri.
The team emphasized that this technology represents a major development in orthopedic medicine and opens new horizons for improving the quality of life for patients, particularly those suffering from chronic diseases or congenital deformities.
